I was a history student for the past 2 attempts but changed my optionals to Geography
i was unable to develop interest towards history but could give some tips to history students.

the real reason to read NCERT is not to mug up points but to get a feel and realise the historical sequence
the new NCERT is colourful and provides a visual aid for various historical facets
it is not compusory to read new NCERT to the core if u thoroughly read the Old NCERT's
Ancient --- R.S.Sharma
Medievel--- Satish Chandra
modern---Bipin Chandra
Editions 2006 as basic readings
All the BEST

Hi digambara,

NCERT ,u can download freely from internet.U can download from NCERT website.
If you r not interested to start NCERT,you can read your state board history. It will give you an idea.
Then you start reading the books stated above by our friend RAKESH.
